Garage Door Sensor Repair in Alva
A door that bounces back up or will not close is often blocked by a sensor problem. We clean, realign and test the pair and fix wiring faults.

Why This Stops a Door
Two small sensors sit on either side of the door, a few inches above the floor. They send an invisible beam across the opening, and if anything breaks it, the opener refuses to close or sends the door back up. That is a safety feature, but it can also be triggered by a bumped bracket, dirt on a lens, direct sun or a loose wire.
So the door appears broken when the motor and hardware are fine. We check lens cleanliness, alignment and indicator lights on both units, then trace the wire back to the opener for damage. After repair, we test the reversal several times with a real obstruction.
What You Will Notice
Door goes down then back up
It travels toward the floor, then reverses, which is the opener responding to what it believes is a blocked beam.
Opener light blinks
Flashing lights on the opener or on the sensors themselves often indicate a misaligned or interrupted pair.
Works only when held
Some openers close only while you hold the button if the sensors are not seeing each other.
One sensor light is out
A dark or flickering indicator on either unit shows power loss, misalignment or a broken wire.
How the Repair Goes
- 1
Clean and inspect
Lenses are wiped, brackets checked for movement, and both indicator lights examined for steady glow.
- 2
Realign or replace
The pair is aimed so each sees the other. A failed unit or damaged wire is replaced and tested.
- 3
Prove the reversal
We place an object in the beam path and in the door's way, confirming it stops and reverses as it should.
Quick Answers
- Can the sensors be skipped just to get the door shut?
- Please do not. The sensors are the main protection against the door closing on a person, pet or vehicle. Finding and fixing the cause is the safe way to get the door closing again, and it usually takes little time.
- Why do my sensors work some days and not others?
- Direct sunlight on a lens, a loose bracket or a slightly damaged wire can cause on-and-off behavior. We look for each of these during diagnosis, since an intermittent fault can be harder to catch than a constant one.
- Do sensors wear out?
- Yes, eventually. Wiring can fray, brackets can loosen and the units themselves can fail, particularly after repeated bumps or knocks. When cleaning and alignment do not hold, replacing the pair is often the lasting answer.
A Reversing Door Is Usually Simple
Tell us how the door behaves and what the sensor lights show. Many cases are an alignment fix.
