Opener fitting

Garage Door Opener Installation in Alva

An opener can only be as good as the door beneath it. We balance the door first, mount the unit, set the limits and prove the safety reversal.

Why This Stops a Door

A fresh motor will not fix a door that is out of balance. With a weak spring or a displaced cable, the new unit strains from its first day and may stall partway, just like the one it replaced. So installation starts with lifting the door by hand and checking that it stays put at mid-travel.

Once the door is sound, the opener is mounted, connected to the door and set so it stops exactly at the floor and fully open. Force is adjusted to just enough, and the safety reversal and sensors are tested. You also learn where the release cord is and how it behaves.

What You Will Notice

  • Old opener beyond reviving

A motor that no longer lifts, even with the door balanced, may be due to a gear or board failure.

  • Repeated stops partway

Limits that will not hold, or a drive that slips, can mean the unit has worn out.

  • Remote controls that fail

A receiver that stops responding after repeated pairing often needs more than a battery change.

  • A door with no opener

A manual door can be fitted with one, once its balance and hardware are checked for the extra duty.

How the Repair Goes

  1. 1

    Check the door first

We balance-test the door and repair springs, cables or rollers that would overload a new motor.

  2. 2

    Mount and connect

The unit is fixed to the ceiling and header, joined to the door, and wired to the wall control and sensors.

  3. 3

    Set limits and test reversal

Open and closed points are set, force is adjusted, and the door must reverse on contact and on a blocked sensor beam.

Quick Answers

Why is the door checked before a new opener goes in?
A weak spring or loose cable makes any opener work too hard. Repairing the lift system first protects the new motor from strain and keeps the door from stopping partway, just as the old one may have done.
Will my existing sensors still work?
Sometimes older sensors can be reused, but many installations call for new ones so that the pair is matched to the opener and the safety reversal is dependable. We test them with an obstruction before leaving.
Does the opener need power nearby?
Yes, it needs a grounded outlet within reach of the unit, usually on the ceiling near the motor. We check this at the start of the visit, so there are no surprises once the installation is under way.
